RIBBON CUTTING OF NEW HEALTH CLINIC

The Warren Easton Charter Foundation health clinic ribbon-cutting ceremony, held on the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, drew an overflow crowd of 250, despite a predicted 80% chance of rain, and 25 other K5 events scheduled for Sunday, including an appearance by President Obama at Xavier University. Mayor Mitch Landrieu, U.S. Senators Mary Landrieu and David Vitter, General Russel Honore’ and New Orleans councilmen at large Jackie Clarkson and Arnie Fielkow attended the event, as did 30 media reps from around the country. Featured speaker was Sandra Bullock.
The Warren Easton Charter High School-based (on campus) health clinic will be a full-service medical and dental clinic. It is the product of a partnership between Tulane Medical Center, Louisiana School Health Connection and the Warren Easton Charter High School Foundation. Major funding for the $700,000 facility comes from the Kellogg Foundation, Sandra Bullock and The San Francisco 49ers Foundation.Ezra Jack Keats Foundation
Posted: May 12, 2010Thanks to a grant from the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation, Easton students constructed a quilt based on the paintings of Louisiana Folk Artist Clementine Hunter. Mrs. Hannon’s 6th period Art class worked on creating a fascinating quilt that tells the story of the African American heritage in Louisiana. The quilt is on exhibition in the library for faculty and students to view.
One hundred and fifty new prom dresses were brought to New Orleans from Dallas by Ms. Sandy Diamond, Kirsten Kerrigan and Elise Murphy. These ladies asked for donations to dress manufacturing companies in Texas.
